The cognitive anxiety outpatient clinic for the courageous

Cognitive behavioral therapy against anxiety disorders, panic and social phobia

"Since childhood I have been afraid of people." This is how the typical report of a client with social anxiety begins. "I was told I was different from others. And they let me feel that. I was not understood at home, bullied at school, ignored at university and exploited at work. Although I kept telling myself that I didn't have to let myself be exploited, I always got the short end of the stick. I was ignored, exploited, abused. Because I realized that I could not succeed alone, I sought help from doctors and psychotherapists. But that made everything even worse. It was a vicious circle of self-destruction. After years of sucking tablets and many wrong ways, I was so desperate that I thought I was going to kill myself. Then I found ABARIS. The nine hours of intensive work with you have changed my life. Now no longer others dictate my life, but I decide about myself. And I enjoy the wind of freedom that blows with me."

Behavioral therapy overcomes the blockade of anxiety

The social phobia, the fear of scrutiny by other people, client reports, of which the is the most common anxiety disorder of our time. Through the increasing self-observation and the incessant self-centred brooding about the behavior of other people, the entire attention and mental energy of the social phobic is finally wasted. The phobics often exhaust to an extend that they become incapable of work and action.

Around 30 percent of all people now suffer from an anxiety disorder at least once in their their lifespan (lifetime prevalence) as a result of stress. And in times of upheaval like these, when social insecurity, social conflicts and political, economic and interactional stress are on the increase, the prevalence of anxiety disorders, often linked to panic disorder or depression as an accompanying disease, is also increasing.

But there is a cure: Anxiety disorders, panic disorders and specific and social phobias can be cured with cognitive behavioral therapy, completely without medication, quickly and with lasting success. This is a fact — and our daily service as cognitive psychotherapists and cognitive behavioral therapists.

Cognitive Therapy:  Thinking – Recognizing – Knowing

This coaching service, which is provided exclusively by cognitive psychotherapists with a state license, does not need any psychotherapeutic techniques to manipulate clients, such as hypnosis, EMDR or the brutal stimulus confrontation of behavioral therapeutic flooding. Our coaching does not include anything that is in vogue at the contemporary therapy bazaar or is promoted in a blatant manner as "power therapy". This is often useless, sometimes even dangerous nonsense. Our psychotherapists simply use the clear view of the reality in the mother tongue of their clients [1]  and teach the art of rational thinking.

The cognitive ABARIS Anti-Anxiety Coaching℠ is open to all those who are willing to use their rational mind and are able to learn to think rationally with our help. This is our work requirement. "To argue with a man who has renounced the use and authority of reason, and whose philosophy consists in holding humanity in contempt, is like administering medicine to the dead," [2]  wrote Thomas Paine, one of the spiritual founding fathers of the United States.

The outstanding effectiveness of our cognitive ABARIS anti-anxiety coaching℠ is based on the fact that our psychotherapists, as in the times of Epicurus and Socrates, have rational conversations in which they teach their clients, with respect and empathy, how to recognize reality and give them the knowledge that cognitive psychology and cognitive behavioral therapy in particular have at their disposal, which is necessary to understand all anxiety disorders, panic disorder and phobias and to cure them by themselves.

Don't let anxiety and panic ruin your life

Ten hours of individual instruction through cognitive psychotherapy or a appropriate cognitive coaching are proven to be sufficient to free oneself from anxiety and panic disorders as well as phobias. "When man learns to use his natural ability to consciously and independently think in a healthy and purposeful way, he is not only able to control his natural fear, but then he is even able to enjoy the gentle guidance which is the natural purpose of fear." [3]

With these words, Dietmar Luchmann, a psychologist, psychotherapist and cognitive behavioural therapist who founded the ABARIS Angstambulanz℠ (anxiety outpatient clinic) in Stuttgart in 1992, describes the psychotherapeutic transformation of the phobic patients trapped in the prison of their fear into free and self-determined individuals.

Of course, this path to freedom requires decisive work on oneself. "What can it profit a man to be able to think, if he does not dare to? One must have the courage to go where the mind leads, no matter how startling the conclusion, how shattering, how much it may hurt oneself or a particular class, no matter how unfashionable or how obnoxious it may at first seem. This may require the courage to stand against the whole world. Great is the man who has that courage, for he indeed has achieved will-power." [4]

Success depends on the courage, not on the psychotherapists

Clients have to bring this will-power and courage with them to free themselves from their pathological fear. Because "success depends on the courage" [5], as Theodor Fontane puts it. The Nobel Prize winner, mathematician, philosopher and logician Bertrand Russell describes how the lack of willpower and courage to take on the pain of one's own thinking ultimately blocks liberation from fear: "We all have a tendency to think that the world must conform to our prejudices. The opposite view involves some effort of thought, and most people would die sooner than think - in fact, they do so." [6]

For the aspired liberty beyond the self-built walls in the prison of fear applies: "Liberty means responsibility. That is why most men dread it." [7]  This responsibility cannot be transferred to us. But for those who are willing and courageous to take responsibility for themselves, our individual ABARIS Anti-Anxiety Coaching℠, which lasts a total of ten hours in just two days, can reliably help to change their phobic thinking efficiently and to cure it permanently.

The way to success: Take responsibility

The British singer Robbie Williams reported in the biggest British daily newspaper "The Sun" about his severe agoraphobia (fear of leaving the house; fear of public places) and depression, which kept him imprisoned for several years: "I was agoraphobic from around 2006 to 2009. Those years were just spent wearing a cashmere kaftan, eating Kettle Chips, growing a beard and staying in. I remember they offered me £15 million to take over from Simon Cowell on American Idol, plus a big gig in the States, but I turned it down because I wasn’t leaving the sofa at the time. I just couldn’t." [8]

Robbie Williams only found out from his anxiety disorder when he heard the song "Human" by the US rock band "The Killers" on the radio. With this text "And sometimes I get nervous | When I see an open door" [9]  he had that "lightbulb moment" and courage that led him to psychotherapy and back to life after years in prison of his fear. But "it wasn’t an easy process — it was like having a car crash and then learning how to walk again", Robbie Williams later said. [10]

The longer a person remains in the prison of the fear, the deeper the roots of the fear become. Do not condemn yourself to life imprisonment through discouragement, because you have learned to make the mistake of thinking phobically. Have courage to use your reason and logic! The wind of freedom will guide you to pursue your highest aspirations by "seeking happiness in freedom and freedom in courage". [11]
